Your Donation to Limestone Post This Week Will Be Doubled!

by Ron Eid, Publisher, Limestone Post

To our subscribers, readers, and supporters:

All of us at Limestone Post Magazine wish you and your loved ones a safe, happy, and prosperous New Year!

In 2022, our 7th year, we are planning to build Limestone Post into an even stronger publication, but we can’t do it without the support of our readers. So we’d like to thank everyone who donated to Limestone Post this year. And we’re happy to say that all donations we received in November and December will be matched by the NewsMatch campaign!

If you haven’t donated yet, it isn’t too late to have your donation doubled!

Through December 31st, NewsMatch will match your monthly donation 12 times — or double your one-time gift — all up to $1,000 per person!

We’re about $1,000 short of our goal of $5,000 for NewsMatch. Can you help us reach our goal?

Yes, I support Limestone Post!

Limestone Post is the only local media outlet participating in the 2021 NewsMatch campaign. Our membership in the prestigious Institute for Nonprofit News makes this possible. And we need your support to keep publishing our in-depth articles.

Our largest expense is contributor fees, so your tax-deductible donation will help pay our local freelance writers, photographers, illustrators, and other creative talent for the time and effort they put into researching and writing these in-depth stories. Your support will also help us keep our content free so that everyone in the community has access to fact-based news and information.

This year, Limestone Post became a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), a network of 360 independent, nonprofit news organizations dedicated to building the field of nonprofit news. NewsMatch is only one of INN’s programs that helps publications like ours. We can also benefit through editorial collaborations, administrative support, and sharing research and other resources with other INN news outlets. With INN’s help — and yours — Limestone Post will publish even more public-service journalism in 2022. Can we count on you to support local, nonprofit news?

You can see the depth and breadth of the stories we covered this year by scrolling through our archives. From in-depth research on mass shootings to surveying the local daily news landscape, our contributors cover the arts, outdoors, health, housing, social-justice issues, and so much more.

Limestone Post is proud to collaborate every year with Rachel Bahr’s English 11 class at the Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship on their ‘Sense of Place’ video project. Pictured is screenshot of Woolery Mill from Ambrose Lee’s video.

This year we published the work of returning contributors such as Laura Martinez, Diane Walker, Duane Busick, and Laurie D. Borman.

Steve Hinnefeld produced our most-read article of the year, “Changes in Daily Local News Landscape Have Consequences,” about the people and organizations that deliver our local daily news. And Rebecca Hill wrote several stories about health issues, including an extensive report, “Preparation vs. Security in Preventing Mass Shootings,” on how people locally and nationally are working to prevent mass shootings. And, as always, we were proud to continue our collaboration with Rachel Bahr’s English 11 class at the Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship for their annual “Sense of Place” video project, “What the ‘Sense of Place’ Project by ASE Students Can Teach Us”!

A few writers made their LP debuts with long-form stories on important local issues: Hiromi Yoshida wrote two stories: one about the Writers Guild’s Spoken Word Series on observing Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and another on how writers and literary groups have been effected by the pandemic. Deborah Myerson wrote about how exclusionary housing policy creates issues related to housing affordability, accessibility, racial inequity, and climate change. Sean Chung covered the problems invasive plants are causing here in Monroe County. And Eszi Waters interviewed numerous experts to see how economic distress, loss, and isolation increased the need for local mental health services during the pandemic.

We also published columns by Ruthie Cohen and Jennifer Piurek, and we expect to see more soon from longtime columnist Micheal G. Glab. In October, we launched our Limestone Reader book column with Yaël Ksander’s witty review of Sister City by local author Ian Woollen. We hope to see more from these talented writers in 2022. Stayed tuned!

These contributors — plus photographers, illustrators, editors, and others — devote a lot of time and effort to give us these thorough, in-depth stories. To pay them a fair rate, we need your support. Can you help us support our talented, hard-working contributors who cover the issues that matter to us all?

Yes, I support local writers, photographers, and illustrators!

As we look ahead, we’re planning to make Limestone Post even stronger in 2022 by publishing more in-depth, public-service journalism. Thank you for your support throughout the year! Whether reading our stories, sharing them, subscribing to our magazine, or following us on social media, you always inspire us to publish some of the best journalism in our community.

Thank you for all your support! And Happy 2022!
