Limestone Media Had a Momentous Year in 2023!
As our 2023 Impact Report shows, last year was a banner year for our flagship publication, Limestone Post Magazine. Since our launch in 2015, we have featured in-depth articles on an array of topics, but each year since becoming a nonprofit in 2019, we have published more stories and increased our presence in Bloomington and surrounding communities.
Our mission is public-service journalism. We provide this by publishing valuable information on pressing issues that impact Bloomington and surrounding communities. Our reporting helps improve the quality of life in Monroe County by not only keeping readers informed but also helping people feel connected to where we live. Limestone Post chronicles our community’s “sense of place.”
One of our taglines reads “Writers with a Voice, Photographers with a Vision,” and we are lucky to have such talented writers and photographers sharing their work with us.
We are especially proud of our series “Deep Dive: Limestone Post and WFHB Investigate,” which was funded by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County. The Institute for Nonprofit News selected Deep Dive as a finalist for Journalism Collaboration of the Year in the 2023 Nonprofit News Awards. And in January, the Community Foundation helped us secure funding from the Knight Foundation to continue the series through 2024.
Another finalist in Nonprofit News Awards was our article “The Long Goodbye: Living with Alzheimer’s Disease,” by Rebecca Hill, which was nominated for the Insight Award for Explanatory Journalism. Limestone Post was the only publication in Indiana to be nominated for these national awards.
Events Calendar and Sports Scores
In addition to our stellar lineup of in-depth stories, 2023 was our first full year of hosting an Events Calendar. Our readers quickly took to the calendar, making it one of our top-5 most-viewed pages week-in and week-out. And it’s easy to see why, because it’s comprehensive and easy to use. Arts, culture, entertainment, outdoor activities, university functions, business events, and so much more are displayed for Monroe and surrounding counties. And it is free for venues, nonprofits, businesses, schools, and anyone else to submit events.
Brand new to Limestone Post is our LP Sports Scores, listing the latest scores from local high school teams: basketball, volleyball, tennis, softball, baseball, track, swimming, football, wrestling, and more.
What’s next?
Throughout 2024, we will be busy developing the infrastructure and fundraising for a new venture: an online, daily local newspaper. We hope that you will join us on this new journey! More to come on this in the near future!
To our readers and supporters, thank you! We are thrilled to have you alongside us and appreciate your support.
