French Lick

The Oxford Hotel (left) and Homestead Hotel, built in 1910 and 1913, were just two of the 30 hotels and 15 clubs in French Lick and West Baden Springs during the Roaring ’20s. Segregation forced African Americans to stay in smaller hotels like these. Both buildings are now on State Road 56 and the National Register of Historic Places. | Photos by Laurie D. Borman
