Staff member Gracia Valliant (left) and Store Manager Dave Debikey have traveled to meet with artisans in Guatemala and Indonesia [feel free to list more!], and have seen fair trade break the cycle of poverty firsthand — not only does it a provide financial independence, but it also helps reduce sex trafficking and child labor. It is even changing gender roles. “I visited an artisan friend in Guatemala, and her husband stated that he spends his days helping his wife with her business,” Valliant recalls. “This was a surprising statement, to hear a man basically saying he was behind his wife.”
